Day Twenty-Five: Sacre Coeur

Today we headed up to Montmartre to visit Sacre Coeur. Beginning our descent from the apartment:
Stopping to mail some postcards to Grandmom in Vermont:
 Many steps to climb:
 Eliza opted for the ramp:
And could barely muster the strength:

Samantha and Kenny went to the very top, while Eliza and I retreated to the sanctuary where we actively prayed for air conditioning:

Kenny took this picture not knowing we were sitting in the seats below. We sat quite happily through the entire mass. Eliza was quiet and contemplative while the nuns sang and the priest gave a sermon.

No thanks! We're all set:
We had lunch and wandered the streets of Montmartre:
The girls were eager to have a portrait painted, but we settled for the less expensive and more charming silhouette:

The woman worked some serious magic and also happened to be the most delightful person we have met in France thus far. She was full of smiles and incredibly kind:

Even more, she had my special thumbs and she explained to me that those who are born with them are typically impulsive. Hmmm...

We wandered around a bit more...

And watched the funicular carry passengers up and down the hill that we were tough enough to climb ourselves:

When this homeless/crazy man started yelling things at tourists, we decided it was time to leave:
Quick stop to check out some chotchkes:
And get harassed by these men trying to put bracelets on our wrists...
We ended our Montmartre visit with a ride on an empty carrousel. I knew this area was touristy, but it was also somewhat depressing. Glad we saw it and not too eager to return.
Once we emerged from the metro, we cleansed ourselves of the experience with Purell...
 And ice cream:
We spent some quiet time at home:
And then Kenny took the girls to Monoprix:
Eliza navigates the aisles like a professional Parisienne:

And to end the day we had a lovely picnic at the Seine. The girls finally convinced us to shell out the euros for imported OJ:
Kenny and I added Prosecco to ours:

One more hot day to go and then some cooler weather to end our trip!
